"A rack of 2.75 inch rockets which have been fitted with a laser guidance package, turning them into precision guided munitions."
― Weapon Description

The AGM-27, also known as APKWS is a unique weapon available for the AH-94 and T-55 to use.

It is a Hydra 70 rocket fitted with a mid-body laser-guidance unit, allowing for both high capacity and high accuracy. The AGM-27's accuracy allows it to engage targets at longer ranges than the Hydra 70, while also commonly requiring fewer rockets to destroy a target due to fewer missed shots. Like other laser-guided weapons such as the AGM-114, the deploying aircraft must continue to illuminate the target until impact.

Usage

The AGM-27 has a number of deployment options that affect the behavior of the targeting reticle, listed below:

  • Uncage mode:
    • Auto - Locks onto the TGP reticle once the AGM-27 reticle is in proximity of it.
    • Manual - Requires holding down the trigger for the AGM-27 reticle to lock on.

Like the Hydra 70, the AGM-27 is effective in destroying large numbers of dispersed soft targets. Additionally, due to its increased range, the AGM-27 is capable of striking IR SAM threats (MANPADS, IRAPC) and AAA from outside their engagement range.

While the AGM-27 typically can't be carried in quantities as large as the Hydra 70, the higher accuracy of the AGM-27 tends to result in a larger number of destroyed targets in practice.

The AGM-27 destroys tanks in 4 hits, IRAPCs in 3 hits, AAA in 2 hits, and infantry in 1 hit.

The AGM-27 also has limited missile interception capability, provided the user can acquire a target lock on a missile in flight. This is more useful to the AH-94, as the T-55 already has access to the far more reliable AIRS-T. If attempting interception in the AH-94, it is recommended to minimize any side-slip so as to minimize the maneuvering of both the AGM-27 and the target missile.

Deployment

  1. Arm the weapons in your aircraft.
  2. Turn on the TGP and set it to SOI.
  3. Select the AGM-27 as your current weapon.
  4. While holding the flight stick, use the thumb stick to slew the TGP reticle over the desired target. The reticle will snap to a unit and lock onto it.
    • Trigger Uncage Mode (Manual): Hold the trigger down with the aircraft pointed towards the target to uncage the sensor. The weapon circle in the HUD will slew onto the target and the weapon engagement zone bar will appear. If you are within range, the Range Launch Authorization Lights will come on and the aircraft's Voice Warning System will announce: "Shoot!". While continuing to squeeze the trigger, press the change weapon button to launch the missile. The AGM-27 is an Air-to-Ground Missile, and thus "Rifle" is announced on the radio when the missile is fired.
    • Trigger Uncage Mode (Auto): The previously described trigger hold behavior is now always on. Instead, the trigger is now used to fire the weapon.
  5. After launch, continue tracking the target until impact.

Variants

The AGM-27 is available in two variants:

  • 7x AGM-27 Pod: The smallest available AGM-27 pod. It uses the Hydra 70 7x pod model. Available to both the AH-94 and T-55
    • Cost: $1950
    • Weight: 108 kg
  • 19x AGM-27 Pod: A larger version of the 7x Hydra 70 pod, retrofitted to use AGM-27 rockets. Only available to the AH-94.
    • Cost: $4950
    • Weight: 290 kg
